Jagannathan Biography

Jagannathan was an accomplished actor of Malayalam known for supporting and comic roles. He was associated with Malayalam cinema and television and was most active in the 1990s. He was an accomplished theatre artist as well and known for association with veteran artists like G. Aravindan and Nedumudi Venu. Jagannathan's film debut was Oridathu (1986) directed by Aravindan. He was quite active in Doordarshan serials in the early 1990s. Kairalivilasam Lodge – is the most popular role on small screen which made him a household name among television viewers. As a character artist, he portrayed over 100 roles belonging to different movies. Ardhanaari (2012) was his last release. He was active in the field till his death and he died in Poojapura in 2012.

He was born in Changanassery, Kottayam in 1938. He completed his schooling from Vaikom Government School. Later he trained for Rashtriya Anushasan Yojan at Rajasthan and won first rank as well. Later he worked as a physical trainer and instructor in many schools across Kerala as well as Indore. He also held decorative posts like Government Welfare officer and Govenernment Sports Director Administrator before his retirement.

His acting career began through theatre and he was quite active in the theater scene in the 1980s. He has worked with many senior artists of Malayalam film industry, during their early years. Highly acclaimed film director G. Aravindan and veteran actor Nedumudi Venu are among those leading names. He has also directed four plays: Pathanam, Parivarthanam, Karadi and Vivahalochana. As a stage actor his most memorable role is Aravindan’s Avanavan Kadamba, where he portrayed the character of Aattappandaram.

Jagannathan's film debut was Oridathu (1986) directed by Aravindan. Thacholi Varghese Chekavar, The truth, Pidakkozhi Koovunna Noottandu, Kadalora Kattu, Raja silpi, Devasuram, Patham Nilayile Theevandi, Pattanathil Sundaran, Pravachakan, Soorya gayatri, Vachanam, Ente Hridayathinte Udama, Swagatham, Mazhavil kavadi, Swathi thirunal, Dasaratham and Thachiledathu Chundan are among his memorable roles.
