Hrishikesh Joshi Biography

Hrishikesh Joshi – a gifted actor with comedy flair is associated with Marathi entertainment industry. He played one among the main leads of 2014 Marathi comedy film - Poshter Boys. Though he was a part of an ensemble star cast, Joshi left an impression through his unique way of acting. An accomplished stage actor, his performance in Shobhayatra (1999) earned him State award for best stage actor. Later he won the same award successively for two years – 2006 and 2007, for his noted performance in the plays - Love story and Ye Bhau Doka Nako Khau respectively. He is also a noted columnist, who writes for Marathi newspaper, Loksatta.


Associated with commercial plays - Mukkampost Bombilwadi is his most successful play that has been staged more than 400 times, followed by Sangeet Lagnakallol and Love Play. Both these plays have been staged for more than 150 shows. As a film actor, he has been associated with several National award winning feature films - Harishchandrachi Factory, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (English),Yellow, Aajcha Divas Majha, Vishnupant Damle : The Unsung Hero Of Talkies, Kaminey (Hindi) and Deool apart from several  commercial films. The actor has a handful of memorable roles on big screen in commercial movies like the delightful Masala directed by Sandesh Kulkarni. His role as an eccentric cousin was well appreciated.


Joshi is a native of Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He holds a post-graduation degree from National School of Drama and one of the accomplished theatre artists from Maharashtra, associated with Marathi plays. After mid-1990s, he rose to prominence as a stage actor and won many state awards and appreciations. In 1997, he was a part of Indian theater troupe performed in Sri Lankan Theatre Festival and he acted in more than 50 plays.
