H. Sridhar Biography

H. Sridhar was an acclaimed sound engineer of Indian cinema, best known for his association with A. R. Rahman for almost all his works in the initial phase of his career. Sridhar was the Chief Audio Engineer at Media Artists Chennai, who started a professional sound engineering career in 1988. Mostly in association with Rahman he worked with some of the ace directors like Mani Ratnam, K Balachandar, Bharathiraaja, Shankar, Kamal Hassan, P C Sreeram, Priyadarsan, Sibi Malayil and Ramgopal Varma, mostly belonging to south Indian cinema, and has also won 4 National film awards and one Grammy Award posthumously for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media - 'Jai Ho' from Slumdog Millionaire (2010).

 

H. Sridhar’s full name is Sridhar Hariharan, and he was a native of Kerala. He was graduated in mathematics. But his keen interest in electronics and music prompted him to pursue a career in this field. He started a professional sound engineering career in 1988, and later became Chief Audio Engineer at Media Artists Chennai. He was at his career peak, when he died of cardiac arrest in 2008 at the age of 50, with his most memorable work - Slumdog Millionaire released posthumously.

 

He received National award for Best Audiography for the movies - Mahanadi (1994), Dil Se.. (1999), Lagaan (2002) and Kannathil Muthamittal (2003), and Tamil Nadu state award for Karuppu Roja (1996). His title song of Delhi-6 composed by A. R. Rahman earned him Best Song Mixing & Engineering at Mirchi Music Awards. He handled more than 200 films in the role of Mixing Engineer, Sound engineer, sound re-recording mixer, audiographer etc and has been associated with several international artists.
