Govind Namdev Biography

Govind Namdev, also pronounced as Govind Namdeo is a famous actor of Bollywood known for portraying negative roles. The acclaimed actor won the Best Actor at the Osian’s Film Fan Award for Kabootar in the year 2009. He received a nomination at Filmfare awards for his outstanding performance in a negative role. Thakshak, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Pukar, Raju Chacha, Sarfarosh, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Aakhein, Sarfarosh, Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, Chamatkar, Satta, Bandit Queen, Virasat, Mast, Singham Returns, Singham, Garv, Johnny Gaddaar, Sarkar raaj and Boss are some of his noted film roles. He portrayed the role of revolutionary father of Bhim Rao Ambedkar in Baba Saheb Ambedkar (1995) for which he received rave reviews. His role as Mahtma Phule in the tele film Ek Baghi Mahatma also earned him appreciation. 

He was born in Sagar of Madhya Pradesh. He completed Diploma Course in acting from National School Of Drama, New Delhi and also did a short term course from Film And Television Institute of Pune. He also worked as a member of NSD Repertory Company for more than a decade before reaching cinema. Govind polished his acting talents through theatre and his professional career as a stage actor began with the play Tuglak, directed by Ebrahim Alkaji. 

Govinda starrer Shola Aur Shabnam (1992) marked his big screen debut. He played the negative role of a corrupt policeman and since then, he mostly portrayed grey shaded roles on screen. Bandit Queen, Virasat and Satya are some of his earliest noticed works. He portrayed the grey shaded role, Bhau Thakurdas Jhawle in Satya for which he received a Filmfare award nomination for best villain. He has played gangster, corrupt policeman or politician roles in Bollywood movies since then.
