Girija Oak Biography

Girija Oak is a Marathi film and television actress who also works in Bollywood. She is best known for the Bollywood movies – Aamir Khan starrer Taare Zameen Par and Shor in the City. She played the role of Sapna in the critically well received movie – Shor in the city. She played one of the three leading ladies, opposite Sendhil Ramamurthy in the movie. She played Aamir Khan’s co-worker Jabeen in critically well praised Taare Zameen Par. Girija Oak is the daughter of Marathi actor Dr. Girish Oak.

Girija was born in 1987 in Nagpur, Maharashtra as the daughter of Dr. Girish Oak, a popular Marathi stage, TV and film actor. Her mother is a pharmacist. She is married to Suhrud Godbole. After graduation she joined a theater workshop to learn the essence of acting.  Then she appeared in a few television commercials before making her screen debut at the age of 15 with Marathi cinema. Her debut as a heroine into Marathi films was through Kanchan Adhikari's film ‘Manini’.

She appeared in a few Marathi movies like Goshta Choti Dongraevadhi, Gulmohar, Manini and Adgule Madgule and also appeared in popular Marathi television serials. In the movie ‘Adgula Madgula’, she was casted opposite Subodh Bhave. Lajja was her first well appreciated television series where she played female protagonist. Her title role as Manaswini Desai and her chemistry with Piyush Ranade made her immensely popular on small screen. The show was a huge hit on ZEE Marathi television network. She appeared in a couple of Bollywood movies - Taare Zameen Par and Shor in the City. She is currently doing her MBA with distant learning.
