Gilu Joseph Biography
Gilu Joseph is an actress and model belonging to Malayalam entertainment industry. She is also a poet and lyricist, who was an air hostess before entering the profession of acting. In 2018, she appeared on the cover of the March edition of Grihalakshmi – woman’s Malayalam magazine, breastfeeding a baby as a part of their 'breastfeed freely' campaign, which grabbed the attention of national media. Her move was received with mixed response, and led to a lot of controversies that time. Since 2015 she appears in brief roles for movies, and also acted in short films.
Gilu Joseph hails from Kumily in Idukki district in Kerala. After studies she moved to Dubai at the age of 18 to work as cabin crew with Fly Dubai. Later she resigned her job to pursue a career in the field of entertainment. She penned lyrics for Malayalam movies such as Vaarikkuzhiyile Kolapathakam (2019), Ottamuri Velicham (2017), Adam Joan (2017), C/O Saira Banu (2017), Sathya (2017), 2 Penkuttikal (2016) and Lailaa O Lailaa (2015). She was seen in movies such as Abrahaminte Santhathikal, Nonsense, C/O Saira Banu, Thrissivaperoor Kliptham, Aby, Jacobinte Swargarajyam etc.
Jacobinte Swargarajyam was her debut movie as an actress where she played Abdul’s wife. As a lyricist, Lailaa O Lailaa (2015) was her debut film. In 2018 she appeared in the cover page of a leading Malayalam magazine bread feeding a child. Apart from exposing for a photo shoot, her appearance for the cover page as a breastfeeding mother though in real life she is not so, invited a lot of criticisms from all corners. She is a recipient of Palm Pusthakapura Akshara Thoolika award for her literal journey.
