Geeta Kapoor (actress) Biography

Geeta Kapoor was a noted actress associated with Bollywood yesterdays, who played a few supporting roles onscreen. After playing a few less-significant roles on Hindi screen, she shot into the limelight for her role in the classic "Pakeezah" starring Meena Kumari and Raajkumar. Her son Raja is a choreographer and her daughter Pooja is an airhostess. She passed away on 26^th May 2018 in an old age home at Mumbai, abandoned by both her kids. She has been waiting for them till her last breathe. She was 67 years old. She had acted in around 100 films in supporting roles and characters.

Geeta Kapoor entered film scene in the early 1970s and she mostly played brief and less significant roles onscreen. She came to limelight after playing a supporting role in "Pakeezah" co-starring Meena Kumari. The movie had a delayed release in 1972 and was Meena Kumari’s final release just before her death. The movie directed by Kamal Amrohi is regarded as a cult classic, and all the actors associated with the film are always remembered with this film title. Same is the case of Geeta Kapoor too. Geeta later appeared in one more classic movie of the same director – Razia Sultan.

Geeta had acted in around 100 films in supporting roles. Her prominent roles are Pakeezah and Razia Sultan. Later she disappeared from silver screen without any notice. In 2017 she came to limelight after she was abandoned by her son in a hospital during her old age. Geeta was deserted by her children in May 2017 at the SRV Hospital, Goregaon in pretend to take money from ATM. In a humanitarian gesture, film producer Ramesh Taurani and friend Ashoke Pandit had been taking care of her by paying her medical bills for last one year, and also shifting her to an old age home. Geeta was in full hope that her son would definitely visit her at least once, which sadly never happen.
