Geeta Iyengar Biography 
Geeta Iyengar is a well-known Yoga instructor from Pune, Maharashtra. She is the eldest daughter of Yogacharya B. K. S. Iyengar, who has excelled in the same field, and known for formulating a new style in Yoga, "Iyengar Yoga". She has also authored books related to this subject. Her book Yoga: A Gem For Women in an excellent companion to her father’s seminal work Light On Yoga. Geeta’s teachings emphasizes on advancing yoga for women's health.
Geeta S. Iyengar was born on December 1944, in Pune, Maharashtra. She started studying yoga at a younger age, and got formal training from her father, B. K. S. Iyengar. She completed her school studies in 1961. When her father was away from India for teaching students outside the country, she took the responsibilities of her father, and taught students. Slowly she turned a yoga teacher and excelled in this field as well. She became the co-director of Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute aside her brother, when her father retired from service in 1984. She also continued with her international tours during this period.
Geeta is credited to adapting certain yoga postures especially for women, related to different stages in a woman's life including menstruation, pregnancy and menopause. Specific asanas, pranayama and sequences were developed based on which condition she is going through. In addition to it, she also follows the yoga concepts followed and formulated by her father. A well-known figure in yoga around the world, she carries forward her father’s legacy.
She has also authored a few books on this subject - Yoga in Action – Preliminary Course, Yoga: A Gem for Women, Iyengar Yoga for Motherhood: Safe Practice for Expectant & New Mothers and The Women's Yoga Book: Asana and Pranayama for All Phases of the Menstrual Cycle.
