Gargi Roychowdhury Biography

Gargi Roychowdhury is a popular actress of Bengali film industry. She also works in Bangla TV shows, and a former stage actress too. As a stage actress she has associated with theater groups - Uttaran and Bohurupee. She has been a newscaster, television actress and radio artist, but now fully concentrating into her film career. Gargi is now one of the most sought actresses of Bengali screen. She shot to success with the film, Ramdhanu - The Rainbow release in 2014. Naxal and Meghnad Badh Rahasya are other popular works. She has been featured in many TV ads, and was most recently seen in the Bengali version of Horlicks ad.

 

Gargi Roychowdhury hails from Kolkata, West Bengal. She has dabbled with different kinds of roles in different media, before she finally settled with her film roles. As a newscaster, stage actress, television actress, radio artist, model and finally a film actress, she left a mark of her own, in every field she was associated with. As an actress, she gained initial recognition through very popular and longest running Bengali TV show, Sisirer Sabdo Sona Jai, in which she played a lawyer. Very soon she started getting film roles, and she succeeded in this field as well.

 

She played the role of a loving mother in Bengali movies – Ramdhanu and Bitnoon. Ramdhanu – a movie which dealt with admission of students in English medium school had a lot of facts to tell, though with a touch of humour. The movie was later remade to Malayalam titled Salt Mango Tree, and Hindi film, English Medium too drew the basic plot from it, though not credited. Known for her frequent association with director duo Sudeshna Roy- Abhijit Guha, she worked in their movies – Bitnoon, Teen Yaari Kotha and Sudhu Tumi.
