G. M. Sundar Biography

G. M. Sundar is a film actor associated with Tamil cinema. He plays character roles and negative shaded roles onscreen. He played numerous character roles in Tamil cinema in the 1980s and 1990s and took a break from acting in 2005 after the movie, Thotti Jaya. He made a comeback to Tamil cinema in 2016 playing the pivot role of Thilagar, a local area councilor and Vijay Sethupathi’s mentor in the film - Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum. The film met with critical and commercial success and Sundar’s role with grey shades and humour touch got noticed.

 

G. M. Sundar is a graduate from the famous Film and Television institute, Adyar. He studied acting from the institute in the 1970s. He got involved with Tamil cinema mid-1980s, and has played only a few but notable roles on silver screen. He received his first break through Kamal Hassan’s musical hit - Punnagai Mannan in the year 1986. The movie was directed by popular Tamil director K. Balachandar. Sundar played a brief role in the film. Since then Sundar has been featured in several Kamal Hassan films of 1980s. He played character roles in Kamal Hassan starrer Kadamai Kanniyam Kattupaadu (1987), Sathya (1988) etc.

 

He also played brief roles in a few movies in the 1990s such as Pulan Visaranai (1990), Kizhakku Karai (1991), Nanbargal (1991), Thanga Manasukkaran (1992), Ponnumani (1993) etc. Beeda in Nanbargal and Duraipandi in Thanga Manasukkaran are his noted roles of 1990s. He took a break from acting with mid-2000s and returned in a bang with 2016 romantic comedy film, Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum. The movie was directed by Nalan Kumarasamy and produced by C. V. Kumar. The movie gave him a big break to his acting career.
