Ekta Bisht Biography

Ekta Bisht is a sensational rising star in the game of cricket. She is an Indian female cricketer from Almora, Uttarakhand who has been a member of women’s national side since 2011. She is the first woman cricketer from the state of Uttarakhand who got opportunity to play for national time. Like the struggle of former Indian skipper M. S. Dhoni from Uttarakhand, she too owns an inspirational story. But unlike Dhoni she is a bowler to her team whose bowling style is Slow left-arm orthodox. As of now she has taken 71 wickets from 46 ODIs including two 5-wicket achievement and 45 wickets from 36 T20 international matches. She was a member of 2018 ICC Women's World Twenty20 and 2017 Women’s World Cup, which India lost in the finals.

 

Ekta Bisht was born on 8 February 1986 in Almora, Uttarakhand. Her father retired from the Indian Army in 1988 as Havaldar. She has two siblings. She started playing cricket since the age of 6 and in most cases she played with boys and used to be the only female member of the group. It used to catch audience’s attention easily. In those days cricket was mostly regarded as a men’s game in the early 1990s.

 

As her father had retired from army, the family received a monthly pension of just 1500 bucks and hence her father opened a tea stall in Almora to meet the financial aid of the family. He also helped with her cricket career from the same income he got. Later she became captain of Kumaon University in North zone, and finally got selected to national team in 2011 after which the financial condition of her family improved.

 

She played her first international match on 23 June 2011 v Australia, and it was a T20 match. She played her first ODI match against the same team on 2 July 2011, when she was selected to join a tournament against Australia. Bisht took a hat-trick during the match of the ICC World Women Twenty20 played in Colombo on 3 October 2012.
