Duniya Soori Biography

Soori, also called Suri, popularly known as Duniya Soori is a successful director of Kannada cinema who gained success and stardom with his debut movie, Duniya released in 2006. The movie completed 250 days in theatres. This movie casted less known actor Vijay in the lead role which won critics’ appreciation as well Karnataka state award for best actor. After the super success of this movie, the tag ‘Duniya’ was added to the names of both its director and lead hero. The story of Shiva, an innocent villager who works as a manual laborer in stone quarry who changes as per circumstances is still one of the best movies of his career. Soori won best screenplay award at Karnataka state awards for this movie also.

Soori was born in Gottigere, Bangalore of Karnataka state. He started his own signboard business at an early age of 12. Later he worked in wall paintings, portraits, interior decoration, window displays and art reproduction works which prompted him to take Visual arts as main subject. He completed Bachelor degree in Visual Arts in 1999 from Kalamandira School of Arts – Bangalore. He worked in visual arts, television and documentaries and gained experience before entering film industry in 2006. After the super success of his debut movie Duniya, his second movie was Inthi Ninna Preethiya. Though critically acclaimed, the movie was a box-office failure. His third project Junglee released in 2009 was a greater critical and commercial success which completed 50 days at theatres. The movie also received best screenplay awards at Karnataka State Film Awards.

In 2010, came his biggest blockbuster Jackie. With Puneeth Rajkumar in the lead, it was one among the major successful movies of the year. He casted Puneeth Rajkumar once again in his next movie, Anna bond which again proved a major success breaking the opening records of Kannada movies. He won a nomination at SIIMA Award for Best Director also, His latest release is Kaddi Pudi.
