Dolon Roy Biography

Dolon Roy is a National award winning Bengali actress. She appears in both movies and TV serials. She received National Film Award – Special Jury Award Special Mention (Feature Film) for her performance in the 1996 film "Sanghat". Maa, Thik Jeno Love Story and @Bhalobasha.com are her noted Television works. She was also seen in Doordarshan’s popular series – Byomkesh Bakshi. Sajani Go Sajani, Ruaban, Apan Par, Arjun, Kaka Babu Here Gelen, Charuulata and Alik Sukh are her Bengali movies while she was also seen in Bollywood film, Gudgudee (1997) directed by Basu Chatterjee in a supporting role. She is one of the most popular character artists of Bengali cinema.

She was born in Kolkata on February 22, 1970. Her parents were Dilip Roy and Dipika Roy. She was associated with radio dramas since her childhood days. Her college education was completed at Charuchandra College and University of Calcutta. She made her debut film in “Sajani Go Sajani” directed by Tarun Majumdar. Later she was seen in the movies, “Ruaban”, “Apan Par”, “Arjun”, “Kaka Babu”, “Here Gelam” etc. She fetched a National award for the movie, "Sanghat" in 1996. The movie was directed by Pinaki Choudhury.

She is also a theatre artist, apart from being a film and television artist.  She performed for the professional play - “Kella Fatey” directed by Dulal Lahiri in US. She mostly plays mother’s roles nowadays and shows a profound love for her child through her acting performances. Known for delivering powerful performances, she earned critical acclaim for the roles - Zameen and Charulatha, both released in 2011. ‘Ghente Ghaw’, ‘Macho Mastana’, ‘Antar ‘and’ Anubhob’ are other noted works. She became a household name following the popular series on Star Jalsa, Thik Jeno Love Story.
