Divya Singh Biography
Divya Singh is an Indian sportswoman who served as the former captain of India Women’s National Basketball team. She led the Indian team in the Commonwealth Games held in 2006 in Melbourne and is considered to be one of the best women basketball players in India.
Divya Singh was born on 21st July 1982 in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh in India. She has four sisters Priyanka Singh, Prashanti Singh, Akanksha Singh and Pratima Singh who are also basketball players. Pratima Singh is currently serving as the captain and Prashanti Singh and Akansha Singh as the members of the India Women’s National Basketball team.
Divya Singh completed her schooling from Rajershi Shishu Vihar in Uday Pratap College and R.M.K.B.I. College at Varanasi. She joined Banaras Hindu University for completing her bachelor’s degree in physical education and completed her higher studies in Sports Management at the University of Delaware in Newark in US.
In 2006, she received the Outstanding Player Honor by Udai Pratap Autonomous College in Varanasi and was hailed as the Best Player in the 21st Karp Impex Federation Cup Basketball Championship.
She has won many gold, silver and bronze medals in national sporting events. She has been a successful coach of many colleges in Delhi that includes St. Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College. She is working as the Coach of U16 Indian Men Basketball team and Delhi Women Basketball team.
