Dennis Joseph Biography

Dennis Joseph is a famous screenwriter and film director associated with Malayalam cinema. He has been one of the top screenwriters of Malayalam in the 1990s who was associated with many leading directors of the industry like Joshi and Thambi Kannanthanam. He has also directed 5 Malayalam movies. Adharvam and Manu Uncle starring Mammootty and Appu starring Mohanlal are his best movies as a director. Agrajan and Agragan are his other directorial ventures and scripts of both these movies were done by Dennis himself. He ruled the box office in the late eighties and early nineties and has written the scripts of many big commercial hits. Geethaanjali is his latest film script which is the sequel of Malayalam classic Manichitrathazhu and the magic combination of Mohanlal-Priyadarshan team, though it was a box office failure.

He debut film screen with the powerful script of Nirakoottu in 1985. The movie was directed by Joshi and starred Mammootty, Urvashi, Lizzy and Sumalatha in pivot roles. The movie turned out to be a commercial hit too. Since then he has joined hands with Joshi and given many action movies to Malayalam audience. A few more films in this association are New Delhi, Nyayavidhi, Aayiram Kannukal, Shyama, Sayamsandhya, Thantram, Bhoopathi, Sangham, Dinarathrangal, No.20 Madras Mail and Nair saab. New Delhi is the most successful movie in this combination.

His noted scripts include – Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar, Rajavinte Makan, Sarovaram, Gandharvam, Kizhakkan Patrose, Akashadoothu, Patham Nilayile Theevandi, Thaskara Veeran, Phantom, FIR, Indrajaalam, Kottayam Kunjachan, Vajram, Mahanagaram, Man of the Match etc. Akashadoothu is one of his powerful scripts, which was based on Bollywood movie Mere baad starring Rakhee Gulzar and Anupam kher in the main lead. Mohanlal - Dennis Joseph - Thambi Kannanthanam combination has also given some memorable movies to Malayalam cinema.
