Deepa Sahi Biography

Deepa Sahi is a Hindi film actress and producer. She has also acted in television serials. Yet she is most remembered for the controversial nude scene with Shah Rukh Khan in the 1992 Hindi movie, Maya Memsaab directed by her husband Ketan Mehta. Shah Rukh was a struggling actor then and the movie too, went unnoticed. But years later, the leaked video went viral over the net. She has also appeared Shah Rukh Khan in O darling yeh hai India (1995), her second movie. The movie too was directed by her husband. Her last appearance onscreen was for the movie, Aar yaa paar opposite Jackie Shroff, released in 1996, directed by her husband. As a serial actress, her most noted work is Tamas (1986) aired on Doordarshan where she played the role of an independent-minded and empowered lower-caste Punjabi woman. She has also assisted her husband in many projects as a screenwriter and producer. She won National award special Jury mention for her movie, Maya Meimsaab.

Deepa Sahi was born in Dehradun on 30 November 1966. Though her family shifted to Canada, she stayed in India. After studying in National School of Drama, Delhi, she started her career as a theatre artist. She debut Bollywood with Govind Nihlani’s 1984 movie, Party followed by Aaghat the next year. Her appearance in Doordarshan serial Tamas was well appreciated. Later she worked in movies directed by Ketan Mehta, Hero Hiralal (1988), Maya Memsaab (1992), Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India (1995) and Aar ya paar (1996). Then she disappeared from big screen forever.

Her other noted movies are Hum and Ek doctor ki maut, both released in 1991. She won a nomination for best supporting actress for the movie, Hum. She has written the screenplay of O darling yeh hai India (1995) and has also acted as producer for many movies like, Mangal Pandey (co-producer), O darling yeh hai India, Aaar ya paar, Rang rasiya, Maya meimsaab and Rules pyaar ka super hit formula. She has also produced 12 television serials.
