Dasari Narayana Rao Biography

Dasari Narayana Rao is an Indian film actor, director and producer in Telugu cinema. He is also an active politician. At present he holds the Limca World Record for directing the most number of films. Dasari Narayana Rao has directed about 150 films and has worked as a dialogue writer and as a lyricist for 250 movies. As a politician he has been elected to Rajya Sabha and became the Minister of state in Ministry of Coal. Now he is active in Indian National Congress since 2004, after a short break. He ahs received honorary Doctorate "Kalaprapoorna" from Andhra University for his contribution to Telugu Culture and Telugu Cinema in 1986.

Dasari is one of the prominent directors of Telugu cinema. Common topics of his movies revolve around gender discrimination and social issues and he has won 9 Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Awards till now. He has also received two National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards - South and one of his best works is Telugu movie, Megha Sandesham which was showed at Indian panorama, Chicago, Cannes and Moscow film festivals. He has also introduced many film personalities to the industry like - Mohan Babu, R. Narayana Murthy, Raviraja Pinisetty and Mutyala Subbaiah.

Born in 1947 in Palakol, West Godavari of Andhra Pradesh, he took a degree in arts. During his college days, he was active in theater works and has won prizes for plays. Very soon his talents as a potential stage artiste, screenwriter and director were identified and he established as one of the big names of the industry. He has also acted in Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada movies. In 1982, his movie Meghasandesham won best regional film at National awards. Kante Kuthurne Kanu won special jury award in the year 1998.
