Dan Dhanoa Biography

Dan Dhanoa is a Bollywood film actor best known for playing negative, grey shaded and character roles, and has been a part of Bollywood hits mostly in the era of 1980s and 1990s. Mard (1984), Karma (1986), Tridev (1989), Viswathma (1992) and Sanam Bewafa (1991) are some of his best works, where he appeared as a baddie. Dan Dhanoa's heyday was between1985-1995 and Dan was as bad as mainstream villains. Dan has been a part of more than 100 films, with some of them tagged as iconic, before he disappeared from screen in the mid-1990s. Bad police officer, drug dealer, henchman, hotel manager etc – He has portrayed different shades of ‘bad guy’ role on screen.

Dan Dhanoa was born into a Sikh family of Punjab and his real name is Inderpreet Singh Dhanoa. He completed his schooling from The Doon School in Dehradun in 1974. Dan Dhanoa received his first break to films through Manmohan Desai’s Mard where he played antagonist opposite Amitabh Bachchan. He was brought to film industry through actor-director Feroz Khan. Within a short period, he went on to become a most-sought villain of Bollywood.

In 1986, he first married to actress Nikii Waalia and their son Gobind Singh Dhanoa was born in 1987. He is also known as Tarzan in the film industry and works as a cinematographer.  He is best known for the works of I Am Singh (2011), Daas Dev (2018) and Butterflies and Hurricanes (2017). The couple legally separated in 2005. Nikii has been a part of the films - Fiffty Fiffty (1981) and Cobra (1980), and was formerly married to actor Vijayendra Ghatge and was involved with Boney Kapoor prior to getting married. She currently runs a Spa in Los Angeles called BioCella. In 2007 Dan Dhanoa remarried Nandita Puri, a trained Kathak dancer. Now he is retired from films and settled in Chandigarh, and is an art collector.
