Dada Kondke Biography

Krishna Kondke, popularly known as Dada Kondke was one of the most renowned personalities in Marathi film industry. He was an actor and film producer. His double entendre dialogs in movies are very famous. His name was then entered in the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest number of films that achieved silver jubilee. He reached this title when his 9 movies became silver jubilee hits. Krishna Kondke later was called "Dada" and thus he became Dada Kondke.

 

Dada Kondke was a born in a mill-worker's family in Mumbai on 8 August 1932. He started his entertainment career with a band and then as a stage actor. His early life was spent in chawls of Naigao, Dadar. In his local band he was called "Bandwale Dada". During this time Krishna got involved in cultural activities of Seva Dal. He seriously began to work as a stage actor and came in contact with many leading personalities like Vasant Sabnis. When Dada approached Vasant Sabnis to compose a drama script for his own drama company, Vasant became impressed with his personality. The drama, Lokanatya turned out to be a huge success completing 1500 shows and Dada became a star.

 

He got a supporting role in Pendharkar's movie "Tambdi Maati", followed by "Songadya", where he played lead role. This movie turned to be a blockbuster and Dada became overnight star. "Ekta jeev Sadashiv" was his next hit movie and it started the successful career of Dada, delivering hits one after the other. Dada was the lyricist who first used animal names in songs. He normally appears in common man roles and a few of such movies include - Aali angavar, Songadya and Pandu Havaldar. As a film producer, his first movie was Songadya released in 1971.
