Chityala Ailamma Biography

Chityala Ailamma was a female revolutionary leader associated with Telangana Rebellion – A movement against Telangana and Hyderabad Princely state by the peasants during 1946-1951. She courageously fought against the feudal system to save her four acres of land, which inspired many people later. She is widely regarded as a legend. The revolt later paved way to the victory of the Communist Party in Andhra Pradesh in the 1952 elections and introduction of several land reforms in the state. She was the first women revolutionary leader in Telangana Rebellion.

 

This brave lady was born in 1919 in Krishnapuram village of Warangal district of present day Telangana. She belonged to Chakali caste and was married to Chityala Narsaiah and had 5 children. She set example for many when she revolted against Zamindar Ramachandra Reddy when he tried to grab her four acres of land with force. Her resistance to Nizam’s forces truly makes her a legend and inspiration to many to follow her path.

 

As an activist, she worked with the Andhra Mahasabha and the Communist party. She actively worked against the Nizam Government and her house formed a central hub for activities against the land lords. As a representative of peasants’ struggle, she used to travel from village to village to escape from her enemy’s eye. Though had a few setbacks, she is remembered for her courage to fight single handed against Feudal forces and police. Let a simple life and lived as a poor woman she left the world on Sep 10, 1985. She was fondly called Chakali Ailamma. Latest buzz is that Government of Telangana is to install her statue at her birth place in Palakurthi.
