Chithra (Malayalam Actress) Biography

Chithra is a south Indian film actress who predominantly worked in Malayalam cinema. She has been one of the leading heroines of 1980s and first half of 1990s. She played supporting roles after that and disappeared from silver screen with the early 2000s. She reached film scene in the late 1970s. However Attakalasham opposite Mohanlal is her first credited role. She has played parallel lead and second lead in numerous Malayalam films in the 1980s and 1990s. She excelled playing parallel lead and supporting actress roles in many Malayalam classics like – Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Panchagni, Devasuram, Amaram, Ekalavyan, Rudraksham etc. She has also acted in a few Tamil, Hindi and Kannada films, apart from television serials.

 

She has been paired with Mohanlal and Mammootty for multiple times and has been regularly featured in their movies, though not as female lead. Panchagni, Katha Ithuvare, Maanyamahaajanangale, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Kalikkalam, Rajavazhcha, Kadal, Ee Thanutha Veluppan Kalathu, Irikku M.D. Akatthundu, Amaram, Kankettu, Parallel College, Naadody, Thalamura, Advaitham, Ekalvyan, Devasuram, Ammayane Sathyam, Rudraksham, Padheyam, Commissioner, Saadaram, Prayikkara Paappaan, Aaraam Thamburan, Mazhavillu, Ustaad etc are some of her noted film roles. She is away from limelight right now.

 

Chithra entered film scene in the late 1980s through a few uncredited roles of Tamil and Malayalam movies. She caught attention within a short time through the sizzling number she shot aside Mohanlal for her first credited film – Aattakalasam. The song was Naanamakunnu. After that she was seen in a few sizzling roles, though she gained momentum within a short interval of time. With the noted supporting roles in Mohanlal starrer Panchangni and Mammootty starrer Amaram, she proved herself as a matter of substance. She is one among those lucky actresses of Malayalam who got pivot roles in many notable hits. Gopala Gopala (1996) was her last Tamil release.
