Chiranjeet Chakraborty Biography

Chiranjeet Chakraborty is the screen name of Deepak Chakraborty, a popular Bengali actor and director. His name is also pronounced as Chiranjeet or Chairanjit by Bengali audience. Known for working in the movies with rural themes with drama and melodrama, Chiranjeet is popular with such melodrama roles. Chotushkon (2014) is one of his highly praised film roles as an actor. He is also a politician and MLA who got elected from Barasat constituency in 2011 State Assembly elections, where he represented All India Trinamool Congress party. His term as MLA is to end by May 2016.

As a director, his noted works include - Kencho Khunrte Keute, Bhoy, Manush Amanush, Bastir Meye Radha, Sansar Sangram, Phiriye Dao and Maryada. He was born on 2 November 1960. As a popular actor he is associated with Bengali cinema scene since early 1980s and has portrayed over 100 film roles – both in lead roles and supporting ones. His real name is Deepak Chakraborty, a native of Kolkata. Though he studied Chemical Engineering at Jadavpur University, he didn’t appear for the final year exams. He got associated with theater which paved his way to movies. He has also been associated with Desh magazine and worked as a newsreader for Bengali television.

To sustain in the industry he has also acted in B-grade films. He was able to succeed also. But he was quite popular with movies with rural based themes. At a time he was more popular than Tapas Paul and Prosenjit. He is also known as a good painter. In his flat, there are two letter boxes with captions - Chiranjeet and Deepak Chakraborty. Artanad, Madhumoy, Prem O Paap, Harishchandra Shaibya, Jiban, Antarale, Shatru, Sonar Sansar, Din Jaye, Samarpita and Ashlilatar Daye are among his early films.
