Chemban Vinod Biography

Chemban Vinod is a popular character and comedy artist of Malayalam movies at present. Most recently he came to limelight playing the pivot narrator role of thief Martin in the most recent release - Sapthamashree Thaskaraha. His Thrissur accent of dialogue delivery and comic timing in the movie is a feast of all comedy lovers. He also played notable roles in Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014), Amen (2013), Kadal kadannoru mathukutti (2013) and City of God (2011). Earlier too, though he played small roles on screen he is known for the different genres of roles and gain attention from audience as well. He appeared in less than 20 movies till now. The director Lijo Jose Pellissery is his childhood friend who brought him to the film world.

City of God in 2010 marked his acting debut though he played a bit role of policeman. It marked his association with director Lijo Jose Pellissery who later casted him in the role of toddy shop owner in the blockbuster ‘Amen’. Their chemistry in the recent release Sapthamashree Thaskaraha is commendable and is the highlight of the movie. The movie marked Lijo’s acting debut, and the comic role of a Christian priest received rave reviews from critics and public. Vinod played the role of a local thief who opens his mind before the priest and the whole movie is a narration of the film story.   

His real name is Vinod and his father’s name is Jose. He is a member of Maleikkal family of Angamali and all the family members are addressed by ‘Chemban’. That’s how Chemban tag got added to his name. Though he doesn’t claim any previous experiences with film industry, it was his childhood friend who brought him to film industry. His first role of policeman was offered by Lijo and later he got many police roles. It was veteran actor Thilakan who appreciated his role as a police officer yet advised him to do other roles as well. Fahadh Fazil is a close friend of Vinod. Both he and his wife Sunitha are physiotherapists. But he never took up the job. His wife works in US and their 4-year old son stays with her. Chemban is busy with business in Bangalore.
