C. S. Rao Biography

Chittajallu Srinivasa Rao, popularly known as C. S. Rao was a south Indian film maker and actor. He was married to noted actress and classical dancer of yesterdays, Rajasulochana. He was earlier married to the daughter of noted artists, Kannamba and Kadaru Nagabhushanam. He is the son of famous film director Chittajallu Pullayya, well remembered for Lava Kusha (1963) which won regional award for best film in National awards. The movie was directed by both father and son and regarded a Magnum Opus.

He was born in Kakinada in the year 1924. As his father was a famous film maker, he was associated with the world of cinema at a younger age. He also appeared in a couple of movies directed by his father - Sati Anasuya and Bhakta Dhruva as a child actor. Later he worked as assistant to his father, cinematographer K. Ramnoth, art director V.A.K. Sekhar and Uday Shankar. He wrote the screenplay of 1953 movie, Pakkinti Ammayi directed by his father. He also worked as his assistant for this movie. As a film director, his debut movie was a Tamil film, Ponni released in 1953 followed by Telugu movie, Sri Krishna Tulabaram (1955).

Lava Kusha (1963), Manchi Manasuku Manchi Rojulu (1958), Santinivasam (1960), Abhimanam (1960), Tiger Ramudu (1962), Valmeeki (1963), Kanchu Kota (1967), Govula Gopanna (1968), Ekaveera (1969), Jeevitha Chakram (1971), Sri Krishnarjuna Yuddham (1972), Dhanamaa? Daivamaa? (1973), Yashoda Krishna (1975) and Mahakavi Kshetrayya (1976) are his noted movies as a film director. He has also acted in a few movies like Pelli Sandadi (1959), Intlo Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya (1982), Jebudonga (1987) and Kokila (1989). He fell in love with famous dancer and actress Rajasulochana. He got divorce from his first marriage and married Rajasulochana.
