Bobby Avagama Biography

Bobby Avagama is a film producer from Malayalam cinema known for producing offbeat movies highly appreciated by critics, though not commercially viable. He founded the film production company, Avagama Creations, which produced National award winning film Thanichalla Njaan in 2012. The film went on to win two Indian National Film Awards in 2012, Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration, and Best Supporting Actress for Kalpana. He also produced socially and environmentally relevant film project called Sthalam - The Place, which won the Special Jury Award at the Kerala Film Critics Association Awards.

 

Bobby Avagama hails from Thiruvalla of Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. His father’s name is Cherian Philip. He schooled from MGM Higher Secondary School and graduated from Marthoma College, Thiruvalla. Later he took a degree in Film Making from New York University and a diploma in still photography from the New York Institute of Photography in the late 1980s. Initially he nourished dreams to become an actor. As time passed by, he felt that it’s not practicable. He turned practicable and worked in private sector in Kuwait for nearly 20 years until Gulf War in 1991.

 

Avagama's friendship with award winning director Kavyoor Shivaprasad paved way to films, and he took the role of a film producer. His daughter Mariam Anoop along with Kavyoor Shivaprasad directed a socially relevant film, Sthalam which won many accolades. As a film producer he is best known for national award winning film, Thanichalla Njaan. He is best known for financing good and socially relevant film projects. He is a member of the American Film Institute and the International Freelance Photographers Organization.
