Bhargavi Narayan Biography

Bhargavi Narayan is an actress associated with Kannada cinema and theatre. She is a speaker at the Bangalore Literature Festival 2018, Bangalore. As a film actress, she is best known for the roles she played in Eradu Kanasu (1974), Professor Huchuraya (1974), Pallavi Anupallavi (1983), and Baa Nalle Madhuchandrake (1993). Her children - Prakash Belawadi and Sudha Belawadi are associated with Kannada entertainment industry. Prakash is a successful theater and media personality, while her daughter acts in movies and stage plays. Her granddaughter Samyukta Hornad is also a Kannada film actress.

Bhargavi was born on 4 February 1938 in Bangalore, Kingdom of Mysore in British India. Her husband Belavadi Nanjundaiah Narayana, best known as Makeup Nani in Karnataka film industry was an actor and makeup artist. The couple has four children, of whom Prakash Belawadi and Sudha Belawadi became very famous cine artists. Sudha’s daughter Samyukta Hornad is also a Kannada film actress. Bhargavi appeared in 22 featured films and numerous stage plays, apart from a few daily soaps.

Bhargavi is associated with films as well as theater. She got active in film scene since 1970s. Professor Huchuraya released in 1974 remains one of her noticed early works, for which she won the prestigious Karnataka state film awards in best supporting actress category. She also received Karnataka State Nataka Academy Awards (1998) and many more awards for her illustrious acting career spanning to about 5 decades. She is a recipient of state award for best actress (drama) twice. She also won Karnataka State children drama contest in 1974 – 75. Alva's Nudisiri Awards (2005) and Mangalore Prestigious Message Award for Kannada serial, Kavalodeda Daari are other major awards.
