Ashokan Biography

Ashokan is a Malayalam actor who has been successful both as a leading actor as well as playing supporting role. He made his debut in 1979 in Peruvazhiyambalam, directed by Padmarajan playing a 15 year old boy. Till then, he has been a part of Malayalam film industry through different roles he played. His most notable performances include the role of Thomas Kutty in Siddhique-Lal’s In Harihar nagar and both its sequels. After debuting in Padmarajan movie, he has been a part of a series of Padmarajan movies like - Arappatta Kettiya Gramathil (1986), Thoovanathumbikal (1987) and Moonnam Pakkam (1988). His dream was to become a singer. But he became an actor. Yet through many television shows, we have seen Ashokan as a singer. He has hosted various film-song-based programs on television. He has shown his singing talents in movies like ‘Idanazhiyiloru kaalocha’.

Ashokan has acted in numerous Mammooty movies during 1980’s. Mammooty-Shobhana-Ashokan combination movies are many of which Anantharam needs special mention. His early movies of 1980’s include – Yavanika, Idavela, Oru Kochukatha Aarum Parayatha Katha, Mukhamukham, Aattuvanchi Ulanjappol, Thinkalazhcha Nalla Divasam, Eeran Sandhya, Saayam sandhya, Gandhinagar 2nd Street, Chilamb, Pranamam, Thoovanathumbikal, Moonnam Pakkam, Vaisali, Avanikunnile Kinnari Pookkal and No.20 Madras Mail.

Among all his roles, role of Thomas Kutty in all the parts of ‘In Harihar Nagar’ are noted most. He has acted as leading hero in many Malayalam movies. In the movie Amina Tailors, he was paired opposite Parvathy. He was paired opposite Maathu in Amaram, where he played second lead role next to Mammootty. He was paired opposite Shaari in the critically well acclaimed movie – Oru May maasa pulariyal.  He was paired opposite Suchitra in No. 20 Madras Mail. Of the movies he played in 1990’s, his role in Kamal’s Ulladakkam needs special mention. The popular song, ‘Paathira mazhayetho’ was pictured on him. His other hit movies of 90’s include - Kizhakkunarum Pakshi, Savidham, Mimics Parade, Amaram, Thalasthaanam, Nakshthrakoodaram, Neela kurukkan and Ponnu Chaami.  

His recent releases include 3 kings, Teja Bhai and Family, In ghost house Inn, Crocodile love story, Oru Pennum Randaanum, Hello and Melvilasam.
