Ashley Lobo Biography

Ashley Lobo is a successful choreographer of Bollywood. He is one of the three judges for the Indian reality dance talent show India's Dancing Superstar on Star Plus. He is the Founder & Artistic Director of The danceworx - Performing Arts Academy. His mother, Celia Lobo, is a renowned and respected opera singer and theatre personality and Ashley works for Indian and Australian assignments. He has also appeared as dance Fitness Host of morning show of Star Plus, Good Morning India successfully telecasted during late 1990’s (1999 and 2000). He appeared in 250 episodes of this successful program. He has also worked as guest faculty at National School of Drama and Barry John’s IMAGO School of Theatre Studies.

Ashley was born and brought up in Mumbai. He was born on 18 March 1967 as the son of opera singer, Celia Lobo. Before finding work as an individual choreographer, he worked as assistant to many leading choreographers of the industry. Alyque Padamsee, Krishna Bhargava, Celia Lobo, Karla Singh and Salome Roy Kapoor are a few such names. He has worked in production companies like Cascades, They’re Playing Our Song, Best of Broadway, Grease, Cabaret and Evita during this period.

He moved to Sydney in 1989 and studied in Bodenweiser Dance Centre and well known Sydney Dance Company. He learnt classical ballet, Jazz and contemporary styles of dance for over 5 years and performed in several musicals in Australia. His theatrical works overseas include – The wiz, The Nutcracker and West Side Story. Alongside he did a few television and promotional works. He carried his studies side by side.

His television debut as a host was Good Morning India of Star Plus. He entered choreography field as an independent choreographer during early 2000’s. A few of his works include – Rockstar, No one killed Jessica, Blue, U me aur Hum, Socha na tha, Cocktail, Teen pathi, Aisha, Namastey London, Guzarish, Jab we met and Love Aaj Kal.
