Appani Sarath, also known as Sarath Kumar is a south Indian film actor who predominantly works in Malayalam movies. He has played supporting roles on silver screen, and is to do his first lead role through Contessa, as per latest reports. He will also playing a major role in Maniratnam’s upcoming Tamil flick, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, the movie which include a huge star cast of Arvind Swami, Silambarasan, Vijay Sethupathi, Arun Vijay, Jyothika, Aditi Rao Hydari and Aishwarya Rajesh. The actor first came to limelight soon after he was featured in the viral song of 2017, ‘Jimikki Kammal’ from Velipadinte Pusthkam, in which he lip synced to the popular lyrics. His role in Angamali Dairies also left an impression among audiences.

His real name is Sarath Kumar. He came to limelight after playing the memorable antagonist role of Appani Ravi in Angamaly Diaries directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. Since the movie was released, he came to be known as Appani Sarath. It is perhaps for the first time that a Malayalam actor got a registered fans’ association after his debut movie. His performance as Franklin in Mohanlal starrer Velipadinte Pusthkam was also noted, though the movie was a commercial failure. The song ‘Jimikki Kammal’ featuring Sarath became a rage across the nation, registering more than 40 million hits in YouTube, within a few days of release.

His other releases include - Pokkiri Simon and Pipein Chuvattile Pranayam. He is to mark his Tamil debut with Sandakozhi 2 and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, two most anticipated projects of the year. His upcoming Malayalam movies include – Odiyan, Amala and Sachiin. He won Vanitha Film Awards for best newcomer and also Asiavision Awards for New Sensation in acting. From a theater student to sensational debut and a couple of impressive and diverse roles later, this youngster has a promising career ahead. He got married to Reshma in 2017.
