Anubhav Sinha Biography

Anubhav Sinha is a Bollywood director who was formerly a video director. As a video director he was most famous for albums of Sonu Nigam including Deewana and Jaan. As a Bollywood director, Tim Bin (2002) was his debut movie which happened to be a sleeper hit. His last hit movie was ‘Ra.One’ with Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor in leading roles. This movie is the biggest movie of Anubhav Sinha up to date and has reached 100 crore club. It was one among the highest opening movies too. Apart from Tum bin and Ra.One he has also directed movies like Aapko pehle bhi kahi dekha hai, Tathastu, Cash and Dus. Much anticipated movie, Gulab gang where Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla are appearing onscreen together for the first time is to be released soon. Anubhav Sinha is the producer of this movie as well.

Sinha was born in Allahabad to Prem Govind Sinha and Sushila Sinha on June 22, 1965. He did his schooling in Kalagarh, Garhwal. He completed his college studies from Government Inter College and the Allahabad and Queen's College in Varanasi. He also holds an engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.  He started his career as an Engineer and worked in Delhi for two years before shifting to Mumbai.

He worked as an assistant director to Pankaj Parashar until 1994. Later he became an independent director of Doordarshan serials. A few of his successful serials are Sea Hawks and Shikasht. Success of Sea Hawks gave him energy to direct music videos during late 90’s. He was one among the prominent video directors during late 90’s.

He entered into Bollywood with less budget movie Tum bin. He experimented with his own artists that he used for Sonu Nigam’s albums. Tum bin starred Priyanshu Chatterjee, Himanshu Malik and Sandali Sinha, a group of youngsters who were successful models that time. However his next ventures Aapko pehle bhi kahi dekha hai, Tathastu and Cash couldn’t make cash at box office.

Ra.One was declared as a domestic hit by box office, despite being an excellent opener. But all its songs were chartbusters, particularly – Chammak Chalo.
