Anu Mohan (Tamil Actor) Biography

Anu Mohan is a film actor and director associated with Tamil cinema. Apart from directing a few movies in the 1980s and 1990s, he has also portrayed a few character roles during the same period, particularly comic ones. As an actor he is best known for portraying the character role of Chinnarasu for the Tamil blockbuster ‘Padayappa’ in 1999. Minsara Kanna, Thirupathi, Lingaa, Suyamvaram, Badri, Natpukkaga, V I P, Moovendhar, Pollachi Mappillai and Kannodu Kanbathellam are other noted character roles. He has also worked as a dubbing artist for one movie - Chennai Kadhal in 2006. Most recently in 2014, his son, Arun Mohan, made his directorial debut with critically acclaimed thriller ‘Sarabham’ starring Naveen Chandra, Salony Luthra and Aadukalam Naren in leading roles.

Anu Mohan belongs to Chennai. He started his film career in the second half of 1980s as a director. Idhu Oru Thodar Kathai in 1987 marked his directorial debut. The movie starred Mohan, Rekha and Amala in the lead roles. Two years later, his second movie, Ninaivu Chinnam was released. The movie starred Prabhu, Murali and Radhika in the lead roles. Its music was given by music maestro Ilaiyaraaja. Both the movies were flops and in the 1990s, he directed two more movies - Mettupetti Miraasu and Annan.

After his unsuccessful career as a director, he started portraying character roles, including some comic ones. He gained attention playing comic roles, the most notable one being Chinnarasu for Padayappa. Apart from Padayappa, he has also appeared in one Rajinikanth movie – Lingaa in the recent times. It was after a long gap that he appeared in movies. His son Arun Mohan, who has earlier assisted Gautham Menon, has made a successful debut as a director in Kollywood.
