Anju Jain Biography

Anju Jain is a former Indian cricketer who was a member of women’s national team. She was a member of national team during 1995 – 2005, spending a decade with national side. She is a Right-hand batswoman who serves as Wicket-keeper to her team, and has also served as a team captain for many matches. In year 2000 Cricinfo Women's Cricket World Cup, she led the team in 8 ODI matches, where team India advanced to the semi-finals, but couldn’t see the finals. She took 3 test half centuries and 1 century, with 110 being her highest score. She also scored 12 ODI half-centuries with 90 being her highest score. After retiring from international career she began her new innings as a coach grooming numerous female players.

 

Anju Jain was born on 11 August 1974, in New Delhi. She made her Test debut on February 7 1995 v New Zealand. Since then she represented national team in 7 more test matches. She played her maiden ODI on July 20 1993 v West Indies, and last one against Australia on April 10 2005. She has served as opening batsman of the team, wicket keeper and team captain, and surprisingly she has been assigned all these three tasks together 7 times, which indeed is a world record.

 

After retiring from international career she served as the cricket coach for the female domestic team of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tripura and Assam, and also national team. Currently, she is the head coach of Bangladesh Women Cricket Team. She received Arjuna Award from then President Dr. Abdul Kalam at a glittering function in New Delhi on August 29, 2006.
