Anjana Basu Biography

Anjana Basu is a noted film and television actress of Bengali language known for her works in Bye Bye Bangkok and Krishnakali. She also worked in popular mega series on Bengali television - Alpona and Gaaner Oparey. Born into a conservative family she cherished her dreams to become an actress and achieved her goal after her marriage.

Anjana belongs to Howrah. She studied at Howrah Girls’ School and Howrah Women’s college, where she obtained a degree in Psychology. Later she joined Rajabazar Science College, but had to discontinue her studies following her father’s death. Subsequently she got married off and got settled with family life in Patna. Since school days she dreamt to become an actress. She learnt dancing and had talent in recitation. She was a good student at studies and wrote essays for competitions. For the same reason she was confused to choose her career.  

She was brought up in a conservative joint family which included numerous cousins and siblings, almost nineteen in number and she was one among the youngest. Thus her extended family had numerous friends also, who always kept an eye on her. Her father was an artist who worked with an amateur group. Yet like many fathers, he didn’t want his daughter to choose the same field though she desperately desired so. He asked her to concentrate on her studies. She also searched for roles from one studio to another. In between her father died and she got settled with family life.

She pursued her career in acting once she settled in Kolkata. She had a son. She started off with television serials. She shot to fame after she worked in Amol Palekar’s Krishnakali. Since then she got fully active with the entertainment field.
