Anjali Rao Biography

Anjali Rao is a film actress who has appeared in Tamil and Telugu language films and television. Started off with supporting roles, later she played lead roles in a few movies like Vanmam (2014) and Baby (2015). In 2016 she made her Telugu film debut through Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo and also appeared in Tamil movies such as Soodhu Kavvum, Pizza II, Vanmam, Malini 22 Palayamkottai, Peechankai, Kanna Pinna etc. Now she rose to the league of lead actress, and has a handful of Tamil projects such as Sometimes, Sei and Pothanur Tabal Nilayam. Since 2017, she is regular in Tamil and Television television shows too.

Anjali Rao was born on 29 April 1990 in Bathinda, Punjab. But both her parents are Telugu speaking people. Her father was an army officer and for the same reason she had to travel across India as a usual procedure following the transfer of her father. When her father got transferred to Chennai she completed her schooling in the city and pursued her advanced studies in the same city. Anjali Rao became involved in modelling and worked in commercials during her college days. It gave her direct entry to Tamil cinema, though in supporting roles.

She played Nithya Menon’s friend in Malini 22 Palayamkottai. Prior to it she was seen in brief roles in Soodhu Kavvum and Pizza II: Villa. She also starred in Vijay Sethupathy’s Vanmam in 2014. As a supporting actress, she is best known for her performance as STR’s sister in Gautham Menon’s Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada. She turned lead heroine for debutant director Ashok’s Peechankai, and also worked with Priyadarshan for Sila Samayangalil.

She wants to do performance-oriented roles, and to play the lead role is not her top priority. She appears in Tamil TV serials Mahalakshmi and Thalayanai Pookal since 2017, and also Telugu serials, Kerataalu for which she won Best Debut Actress at Gemini Awards and Ruthugeetham.
