Anas Edathodika Biography

Anas Edathodika is an Indian professional footballer of India national team, and also plays for Indian Super League - professional football league in India. He plays as a centre back for the Kerala Blasters in ISL. He started his senior career with Mumbai in 2007, and later played for Pune, Delhi Dynamos, Mohun Bagan (loan), Jamshedpur and finally with Kerala Blasters in 2018 ISL season. He has been signed by Kerala Blasters for this season.

 

Anas Edathodika hails from Malappuram, Kerala. He was born in Kondotty town of Malappuram. Since young he played football. But it was only a hobby. He took the game seriously only while studying in 10th standard when he joined the Malappuram U14s. He also worked as an auto-driver who would drive people around town for Rs. 180 a day, just like a tourist guide. He later pursued a career in football. When he enrolled at N.S.S College, Manjeri, he joined the football team also. There, he got the opportunity to learn from Dr. P.M. Sudhir Kumar, who groomed his talents.

 

He was spotted by retired international player Feroz Sherif while playing in an inter-collegiate game. As suggested by him, he attended the trials for I-League 2nd Division side of Mumbai and got selected. That’s how he joined a senior team for the first time. Since then he got opportunity to play with some of the leading clubs of India including Delhi Dynamos and the very famous Mohun Bagan. In 2017 he played 17 matches for Mohun Bagan. He has played over a hundred matches each for Pune and Mumbai during 2007-2015 before he joined Delhi Dynamos. He marked Indian Super League debut playing for Delhi Dynamos during 2015–2017, and he joined Kerala Blasters in 2018.

 

Indian international defender Anas Edathodika's move to Kerala Blasters from Delhi Dynamos was widely celebrated as a homecoming. After playing for clubs outside Kerala throughout his professional career, he joined his home team in 2018. But he received a three-match ban from ISL this season.
