Anamika Saha Biography

Anamika Saha is a noted Bengali film actress known for playing villain roles. She hails from Bangladesh. Her real name is Usha. She took the stage name, Anamika after her film debut. She got her first break in the year 1973. The movie was Ashar Alo directed by Sunil Bandopadhay. Tarun Majumdar’s Sansar Simante released the following year was her first major hit. Since then she was regular in Bengali movies throughout 1970s and 1980s. She took a break from the industry in the early 1990s and returned back to silver screen after a decade to do supporting roles. She is married to actor Bodhisatwa Majumdar since 1984 and the couple has one daughter.

She hails from Jessore, Bangladesh. 26th November is her birthday. Her father is Ramkrishna Saha, and mother is Nalini Saha. Anamika is a trained classical dancer. She passed her Higher Secondary Exam from Deshbandhu Balika Vidyalaya in 1971. Later she joined Scottish Church College, Kolkata to pursue her graduation. She got her first break to films in 1973 while she was doing her graduation. After that she received many offers from films, and for the same reason she couldn’t complete her studies. She got a small role for her debut film, Ashar Alo. But the role got noticed.

She is trained in Kathak and Bharat Natyam, and she received training in both from Shambhu Bhattacharya and Ghanashyam Das. She was also interested in theatre since younger days and has been a stage actress before her foray to films. She has been associated with the theatre troupe, “Yugantar Natya Ghosthi” for a very long time. She also acted in Radio Drama. Tarun Majumdar’s “Sansar Simante” in 1974 was her major break. She is quite successful playing grey shades on silver screen. She also appears in television.
