Amanchi Venkata Subrahmanyam Biography

Amanchi Venkata Subrahmanyam, popularly known as AVS was one of the top comedians of Telugu film industry who appeared in more than 500 movies. He was also a noted journalist and film maker. He was the Joint Secretary to the Movie Artistes Association for 3 terms. He died on 8 November 2013, aged 56 following liver related diseases. Born in 1957, he was introduced to film world by director Bapu through his film Mister Pellam in the year 1993. He spent exactly two decades in the film industry portraying many memorable comic roles. He has been famed in many comedy sequels and has also directed four movies in his career - Super Heroes, Ori Ni Prema Bangaaram Kaanu..!, Room Mates, and Kothimooka.

 

He was born in Tenali of Guntur district. He started his career as a journalist. He played the role of a comedian in the debut movie - Mister Pellam in 1993. After that he got similar kind of roles and very soon he established as a comedian of Telugu film industry. He has also received several Nandi awards for best comedian including his debut movie. Apart from satire roles he has also experimented with character and villain roles. He was also an active politician and leader of Telugu Desam Party.

 

He has worked with all leading stars of 1990’s as well as heroes of present generation. AVS joined Telugu Desam Party in late 1990s. He has served as head of cultural wing, spokesman and executive secretary positions of the party. In 2008, he underwent a liver transplantation. His daughter donated a part of her liver and he lived for four more years. He died on 8 November 2013 at Hyderabad.
