Alleppey Sheriff Biography 
Alleppey Sheriff was a noted scriptwriter and director associated with Malayalam cinema. He is the screenwriter of Malayalam blockbuster hits like Avalude Raavukkal, Ulsavam, Eeta, Allauddinum Albhutha Vilakkum, Eezham Kadalinakare and Oonjaal. He was a high-profile name in Malayalam filmmaking in the decades of 1970s and 1980s who penned scripts and dialogues for over 100 movies. He was associated with director I. V. Sasi for many of his projects. Aarohanam (1980), Asthamikkaatha Pakalukal (1981) and Naseema (1983) are his directorial ventures. Sheriff passed away on 3rd December 2015 morning in a private hospital at Kottayam, aged 74. He also penned numerous short stories and novels under the pen name - Alleppey Sheriff.
He was born in Alappuzha in 1940. He completed his primary education in his hometown itself. He started off as a short story writer and later wrote and published several novels. His first published story was – Mukkumaala. As a scriptwriter of Malayalam cinema, he wrote script for the first time for the director A. B. Raj. The movie was Kalippaava (1972). But the first released movie was Prethidwani (1971). Since then he got associated with Malayalam cinema for nearly two decades. He wrote screenplay for more than 30 movies. He scripted the screenplay of Mammootty’s debut Spodanam in 1980.
He teamed up with I.V. Sasi in the mid-1970s and Sasi’s masterpiece Avalude Raavukkal was scripted by Sheriff, Malayalam’s first bold film to get ‘A’ certificate. It was a unique theme which was never shown on Malayalam screen before. In fact, Sasi’s debut film Ulsavam was also scripted by Sheriff. It can be said that 1975-1988 was the golden era of this successful duo. For many years he is not active with film industry.
