Alex (Tamil Actor) Biography

Alex, best known as a magician was also known as a character artist of Tamil Cinema. He portrayed more than 100 distinct roles including villain during the period 1993-2011, before he died of liver problems in 2011, aged only 52. He had debuted as villain in Rajinikanth's Valli and showed his screen presence for 2 decades in Tamil cinema. He has done 24 hours non-stop magic show at Trichy which helped him to enter Guinness Books of World Records. He was honoured by none other than the Indian President Mr. Abdul Kalam. Not only that his name was also included in the Limca Book of World Record for performing magic for 12 hours continuously. For his contributions as a magician, Alex has been honored with a doctorate and several awards including the Chevalier Award.

Alex was born in 1959. 1993 Rajinikanth Film Valli marked his acting debut, where he played villain’s role. Then he was seen regularly in movies. Aranmanai Kaavalan, Thamarai, Avathaaram and Kizhakku Mugam are some of his early roles. As a villain he exhibited his full talents as a village man. In Avatharam Alex was brilliant as the diabolic and mean villain. Lead roles were played by Revathi and Nassar. Kovilpatti Veeralakshmi is regarded as one of his best roles up-to-date. In 2003, he received Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Male Character Artiste for this performance.

In 2001, his role as Masilamani in Mitta Miraasu earned him Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Villain. He played over 100 roles during the period 1990s and 200s. Yet he was busy with his performance as a magician. He conducted magic shows on Makkal TV. After a brief period of illness, he passed away in 2011. At that time, a few movies like Moondram Pournami, Oolaichavedi and Ivarpatalam were in pipeline.
