Akiv Ali Biography

Akiv Ali is a film editor and director associated with Bollywood since 2003. He worked as an editor in Bollywood for more than 15 years and turned a full-fledged director with De De Pyaar De released in 2019. Though the rom-com movie was criticised for its weak plot, it was a commercial hit. Akiv Ali is known for his association with film producer and director Luv ranjan, with whom he has given some hit films such as Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Sonu ke Titu Ki Sweety, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and Akaash Vani. He edited several Hrithik Roshan hit movies, and worked with Mahesh Bhatt’s production company Vignesh films for many years during his initial phase as an editor in the 2000s.

Akiv Ali hails from New Delhi. He joined film industry in his early 20s and earned success at a very young age. Kash Aap Hamare Hote (2003) starring Sonu Nigam was his debut film as an editor. The film flopped at box office miserably. Same year he joined Mahesh Bhatt camp, and flop film ‘Saaya’ was the first film with the production house. From there on, he edited many movies starring Emraan Hashmi and other stars, and success of Murder in 2004 gave him a major break in Bollywood. Though it was a low budget film of Mahesh Bhatt, its bold content was appreciated and the movie was a hit. He also edited Kalyug, Lamhe, Gangster etc and made a cameo appearance in Rog before he quit the house.

After that he worked with different producers, directors and stars, such as Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan etc. Brothers, Bang Bang, Kaabil, Kites, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, Agneepath, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, The Dirty Picture etc are other major works. Though he has edited some of the best and commercial hits of past two decades, he is yet to receive recognitions and awards in his profession.
