Akash Khurana Biography

Akash Khurana is a popular film actor associated with Bollywood known for supporting roles. He is also a screenwriter and media personality. Not many knew that he co-scripted the breakthrough movie of Shah Rukh Khan’s career, Baazigar in 1993 – the movie that gave new dimensions to lead actor/villain of Hindi cinema. He co-scripted the movie aside Robin Bhatt and Javed Siddiqui, for which the trio was awarded Filmfare award for best screenplay. Quite a familiar face on silver screen since early 1980s, he is also an entrepreneur and media personality who formerly served as the Chief Creative Officer at Nimbus Communications. Known for playing diversified roles on big screen he is also a well-known theatre personality and TV actor.

He completed his schooling from St. Francis De Sales School, Nagpur. One of the well-educated personalities of Hindi cinema in the 1980s, he completed Mechanical Engineering from NIT Rourkela. He also completed post-graduation in Business Management from XLRI, Jamshedpur followed by M. Phil and PhD in Social Sciences from Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Yet his passion to acting drove him to the cinema world. He reached film scene in the early 1980s and Kalyug released in 1981 marked his film debut. He appeared in offbeat movies such as Ardh Satya, Party, Saaransh etc during his early days and later moved to commercial movies too. In a career spanning to more than three and a half decades he has portrayed over 100 character roles.

He turned a screenwriter in the late 1980s and the trendsetter film known for its music – Aashique was his first film as a screenwriter. Since then he has co-scripted several Bollywood movies such as Chaahat, Aakrosh, Ithihas, Saathi, Daag, Duplicate etc. He has co-scripted several SRK movies such as Duplicate, Baazigar, Chaahat etc. In 1998 he turned a director with the film, ‘Yeh Aashiqui Meri’ though his new role as a director was not successful. He has also appeared in many popular TV ads since 1990s. As a stage actor he worked with Naseeruddin Shah, Pandit Satyadev Dubey and Sunil Shanbag extensively.
