Akanksha Singh Biography
Akanksha Singh is the Indian basketball player who serves as the captain of the Indian Women’s National Basketball Team. She is a part of this team since 2004. She has great skills in the game and has received many awards and honors in this regard.
She was born on 7th September 1989 in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh as one among the five sisters. She belongs to the family of basketball. They are called Singh Sisters and three of them have played for the Indian national team. Her father is a banker and did not support his daughters playing basketball and advised them to enter civil service. However their mother was very supportive to their career. Her father after seeing her in the national team was then proud of her.
Priyanka Singh, Divya Singh, Prashanti Singh and Pratima Singh are her sisters. Priyanka Singh works as the NIS Basketball Coach, Divya Singh worked with the basketball team of the University of Delaware, Pratima Singh served as the captain of the Junior India Women’s national basketball team and Prashanti Singh as the captain of the India Women’s national basketball team.
Akanksha Singh completed her education at St. Stephens College at New Delhi. She is one of the first Top Four Players to achieve A Grade from the Basketball Federation of India sponsored by IMG Reliance. Her charismatic skills in the game always astonished people. She was presented with Joint Best Player Award along with her sister Pratima Singh when she won a gold medal in All India University Basketball Championship held at Nallor.
