Ajeet Bajaj Biography

Ajeet Bajaj is an Indian sportsperson, associated with adventurous sports like rafting, kayaking, expedition skiing and sea kayaking. He is the first Indian to ski to the North Pole and the South Pole, and he did it within a year earning yet another achievement. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and has also served as the President of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India. On 16th of May, 2018 he created yet another history when he scaled Mount Everest along with his daughter, thus becoming the first father - daughter duo to do so. For his contributions towards the field of adventurous sports, Government of India honoured him with the fourth highest civilian honour - Padma Shri in 2012.

 

Ajeet Bajaj was born in the year 1965. He is also known as "Bagage". He schooled at Lawrence School, Sanawar. Since then he was interested in adventurous sports like mountaineering. When he was just 12, he climbed the 12,000-foot-high (3,700 m) Friendship Peak near Kullu. He scaled Hanuman Tibba, a 6100 meter peak at the age of 16. He completed his graduation from Delhi. He has been associated with kayaking and rafting competitions too. He has won a bronze medal in the national games for kayaking. He has also won a silver and two bronze medals in international rafting competitions held outside India.

 

He has done a number of first descents of rivers in India. He is also considered a pioneer of river rafting, kayaking, expedition skiing and sea kayaking in India. Bajaj is an entrepreneur, adventurer and explorer. He has over 30 years of experience in adventure sports. He is the first Asian to have rafted and kayaked some of the most challenging rivers of the world spanning six continents. He has been felicitated with the Hall Of Fame award by the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India for his contribution to the growth of adventure tourism in India.
