Aditya Vikram Sengupta Biography

Aditya Vikram Sengupta is a National award winning film director from West Bengal. He is also known as a cinematographer and graphic designer. As a film director he is best known for his debut Bengali flick, Asha Jaoar Majhe or Labour of Love, released in 2014 which won many awards including Indira Gandhi National Film Award for Best Debut in India. The film was premiered at the 11th Venice Days Film Festival, and won many awards later. Labour of Love is a story about a husband and wife from Calcutta who, against a backdrop of the economic crisis, find it almost impossible to meet up.

 

He was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. Now he shuttles between Kolkata and Mumbai, with his professional career. He is married to Jonaki Bhattacharya. Aditya Vikram Sengupta is associated with entertainment industry since 2010, and works as a Film director, screenwriter, Cinematographer and Editor. Aditya attended St.Xavier’s Collegiate School. He later studied at National Institute of Design in Paldi, Ahmedabad.

 

His professional career began with Channel [V] soon after he completed his learning course from NID. He worked for many years with the TV channel as a promo and creative director. He turned a film director in 2014 with National award winning and highly acclaimed film, Asha Jaoar Majhe in Bengali language. The movie won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director and Best Audiography. But the movie ran into controversies for its similarities with 2013 Iranian short film Zan Va Shohar Karegar. Currently he is working on his second film, Memories And My Mother, and the movie is in pre-production stage since 2017.
