Achamillai Gopi Biography

Achamillai Gopi is a noted actor associated with Tamil television and film industry. He is also a singer, dramatist, and a voice over & dubbing artist. He owns a band called "Gopi melodies", where he is a lead singer and the musical band is 30 years old now. Apart from doing character roles in multiple movies and television shows, he has also given his voice to many artists, where he handled the role of a dubbing artist in the industry. His real name is V. Gopalakrishnan, and also known by the name Kadhirmani Gopi. He is also the nephew of popular playback singer Vani Jairam.

He was born on 9 May 1955 in Thanjavur,Tamil Nadu. His father M. Venkatraman is a retired Railway officer. V. Gopalakrishnan is his real name, but known by the name - Achamillai Gopi among his fans and well-wishers. He was interested in theatre and music ever since his school days, and took formal lessons in music since then. His aunt Vani Jayaram is a very famous singer of south Indian cinema, and has worked in Bollywood too, best known for Guddi songs. Apart from Vani Jayaram, he is also a relative to Sikkil Sisters, Mala Chandrashekar and Pichumani. Thus his family had a strong link to music.

As he grew up, his passion to music and theater only increased. He started his own music band, "Gopi melodies", which successfully conducts stage shows even after 30 years. He received initial training in music from Kumbakonam Nataraj Iyer. Gopi has also provided back vocals for music director Ilaiyaraaja, and rendered his voice for music composers, Ravindran, Narasimhan and V. Kumar. He was the lead singer with the music troop of composer Shankar Ganesh for eight years, and also music shows with S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Gagai Amaran, and Malaysia Vasudevan among the others.
