Aby’s real name is Habeeb Mohammed. He started off as a mimicry artist. He imitated animals’ voice during his early days as a child. Once his uncle happened to hear it and he recommended Abi’s mother too to encourage him in this field. It was Aby’s beginning as an artist. Aby was not a brilliant student, and his uncle thought, the mimicry field might open him an opportunity. Aby started imitating actors. He took inspiration from Malayalam mimicry artists like Alappey Ashraf and Pattom Sadan. Films slowly turned Aby’s passion. He used to see films without his parents’ knowledge, and that too, a single film in two days to avoid being caught. Songs and drawings were other passions during his younger days.

He moved to Mumbai to pursue studies in Food Inspection. In those days, he used to imitate Hindi stars. After studies he settled there for a while and started getting small stage shows. He also worked as a sales representative of a mat company for 4 years. Once returned, he pursued PG in a college in Kothamangalam. He became active in stage shows and mimicry during this time. He became a winner at University youth festival and very soon started a troupe Saagar along with 9 friends.

He remains one of the pioneers of Malayalam mimicry industry. But as a film actor he got only a few roles. He was quite active in 1990s and was a part of several small budget movies with ensemble cast. ‘Kireedam Ilaatha Rajakumaran’ is one among his noted roles. Nowadays he is less seen in films. He made a return to big screen through Happy wedding in 2016.
