Abhishek Jain Biography

Abhishek Jain is a noted young director associated with ‘Urban’ Gujarati films. He has directed only two movies till now - Kevi Rite Jaish (2012) and Bey Yaar (2014) and both became major hits. He made friendly appearance in both these movies also. Thus he is one of the most promising directors of Gujarati cinema, belonging to new generation film making. Both the movies have received critics’ praises and accumulated numerous awards and nominations at various film award functions. Bey Yaar became the first Gujarati film to be showcased at New York Indian Film Festival. In June 2015, he published a book on his experiences in film direction - Aa To Just Vaat Chhe.

In 2012 BIG Gujarati Entertainment Awards, Jain’s debut movie as a director Kevi Rite Jaish was nominated for all eight categories and won in seven of them, including Best director and Best film. The movie received 10 awards out of 15 nominations at 12th Annual Transmedia Gujarati Screen & Stage awards, which includes Best film, best direction, best story and best debutant female. In 2014, he directed Bey Yaar, a coming-of-age Gujarati film which starred Manoj Joshi and Amit Mistry in the lead roles and the movie was a golden jubilee hit.  At the14th Annual Transmedia Gujarati Screen & Stage awards, the film was nominated for 14 out of 16 categories and won total 9 awards, including the best film. Abhishek Jain received best film and best director award.

He belongs to a middle class business family, born on 3 August 1986 in Ahmedabad. He completed Master’s in Business Administration before his foray to films. He assisted ace Bollywood directors Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Subhash Ghai for the movies, Saawariya and Yuvvraaj respectively. Then he returned to Ahmedabad where he began his career as a director. Both his films have earned him best director and best film awards and both have been huge box office hits as well.
