Abhija Sivakala Biography

Abhija Sivakala is a film and theatre actress belonging to Malayalam entertainment industry. She played a brief role in Malayalam hit movie, Action Hero Biju, released in 2016. She is also a trained dancer of various dance forms. She is trained in Kathak by Guru Murali Mohan Kalvakalva and Odissi by Guru Sharmila Mukherjee of Sanjali Centre for Odissi Dance. She is also trained in folk and contemporary dance forms. Till now she has been a part of around 10 theatre productions, and also more than a dozen of films. She has also acted in a few short films.

Abhija Sivakala was born in Vannapuram, Thodupuzha, Idukki district, Kerala. Her father, KR Sivadas and mother, KK Rugmini are Government employees. Her younger sister Atmaja Manidas is an actress. She completed schooling from her hometown. For higher studies she initially chose science stream. Once she realized her real passion towards art and acting, she switched to arts and studied at Fine Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram.  Abhija started her career as an animator in Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore. Later she moved to Bangalore, where she worked in IT field with different companies for some period.

While at Bangalore, she took it as the best opportunity to learn different dance forms formally. She studied Kathak, Odissi, Bharatnatyam and contemporary dance forms. She also attended workshops conducted by leading dancers of the country. While at Bangalore she decided to do theatre along with it, and joined Abhinaya Theatre Research Centre. She played the lead role in Macbeth, which was her first stint with theatre. She got her first break to Malayalam films through Bachelor Party in 2012 in an uncredited role, and later appeared in Action Hero Biju, Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, Seconds, Njan Steve Lopez, Lukka Chupi etc.
