A. L. Azhagappan Biography 
A. L. Azhagappan is a film personality associated with Tamil cinema. He is also known as a supporter of DMK. Apart from producing a few films, he has also acted in character roles. As a film actor, he is best known for his role in Easan. He has also served as President of Tamil Nadu Producers Council and Honorary Secretary of Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC). Both his sons are associated with Tamil cinema. His son A. L. Vijay is a popular film director of Tamil film industry, known for the movies – Madrasapattinam and Deiva Thirumagal, while his younger son Udhaya has also starred in Tamil films. Noted South Indian actress Amala Paul is his daughter-in-law.
Azhagappan was born in the year 1951. He, proprietor of Mas Cinema is associated with Tamil cinema as a producer since 2000, but he has been associated with controversies and a cheating case also. He was appointed President of Tamil Nadu Producers Council in 2004. But during his tenure, he invited a lot of controversies, for threatening Sun TV to sue for showing clips of his movies. In 2001, he took 50 lakhs rupees in advance from a financier Vishal Jain to produce a film. However the movie was never made and Azhagappan was arrested in the cheating case in 2006. But there were rumours that it was due to his declining relationship with DMK’s prominent figure and former chief minister, Karunanidhi. His full production works were halted following his arrest.
As a film actor he is best known for his negative role in M. Sasikumar's Easan (2010), for which he received a nomination at Vijay Award for Best Villain. His character name was Deivanayagam. Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam and Nerungi Vaa Muthamidathe are other noted roles as a supporting actor. As a film producer, Saivam (2014) is his best work.
