Sadia Dehlvi Biography

Sadia Dehlvi is a journalist, social activist, writer and columnist of Hindustan Times and Frontline dailies. She is a known for supporting Barelvi sect on television. She is a very religious person who regularly visits and prays at Sufi shrines. She has been inspired by many saints like Hazrat Nizamuddin of Delhi. She was brought up as a Christian, yet she got influenced with Islamic ideology.

 

She was born and brought up in Delhi. She was born in the year 1957. Her father is Yunus Dehlvi who lived in Shama Ghar on Sardar Patel Road, Delhi. It was one of the oldest media houses of Delhi which published 'Shama', a literary magazine and film Urdu monthly. It was closed in 1987. In the past 30 years Sadia is known for her social and religious activities and a successful career as a writer and journalist. Dehlvi is a close friend author Khushwant Singh, who dedicated his book ‘Not a Nice Man to Know’ to Dehlvi. She married a Pakistani citizen, Reza Pervaiz in 1990. The couple resided at Karachi for a short period and they have one son.

 

‘Sufism, The Heart of Islam’, ‘Dilli ka Dastarkhwan - chapter in City Improbable: An Anthology of Writings on Delhi’ and ‘The Sufi Courtyard: Dargahs of Delhi’ (2012) are her published books. Sadia Dehlvi received the Best Journalist Award in 1989 and is also a recipient of Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award. She has been associated with Indian television as well. She acted in television serials - Amma and Family (1995) and Zindagi Kitni Khoobsoorat Hai" (2001) and has worked as the associate producer of Not a Nice Man to Know (1998).
